Ordering Originals
You can order hard copies of nearly all the calendared documents (all except Miscellaneous Papers indexed under M-Z).
On the image page click the Add to cart button at the bottom of the page. An order form will be displayed. (See below for details required and problems viewing the form and image using AlternaTIFF).
Hard copies will be sent to you by the Society of Genealogists.
Each document or set of documents (there is often more than one) relating to a calendar entry costs £10.
Please note: Copies of Miscellaneous Papers for surnames M-Z are not available.
Details required
Type of document The type of document is shown on the index page heading.
Series No The Series No – either “1” or “2” - is required for Petitions. It is shown on the index page.
Book No The Book No is required for Petitions. It is shown on the index page.
Last name This must be the surname appearing at the beginning of the index record, ie of the Petitioner, in the case of Petitions. It may not be the same as the surname of the person you are interested in, in cases where the index record mentions more than one person.
First name This is the forename appearing at the beginning of the index record, ie of the Petitioner, in the case of Petitions. It may not be the same as the forename of the person you are interested in, in cases where the index record mentions more than one person.
Age This is usually – but not necessarily - the age of the person named at the start of the index record (some records contain the names of more than one person). If there is no age mentioned in the record, leave this field blank.
Place This is the place mentioned in the index record. If there is more than one place mentioned, enter the first one. If there is, for example, a town and a county mentioned, it is sufficient to enter just the town. If there is no place mentioned, leave blank.
Year If there is more than one year mentioned in the index record, enter the first one. If no year is mentioned, leave blank.
Problems viewing order form with AlternatTIFF plugin
You will probably find that if you want to order a Trinity House document, it will be difficult to read the required details from the screen images without zooming. But if you use the AlternatTIFF plug-in so that the zoomed image fills the entire screen, so that you won't be able to view the zoomed image and the order form at the same time. However, you can make the zoomed image window smaller by changing the AlternaTIFF settings
Click the Menu button on the AlternaTIFF toolbar (2nd button from right). Then click "More Settings", and select Zoom window size "1 (Smallest)". Now when you use the zoom function, the zoom window will not obscure the whole screen.
If you have the zoom window open, the cursor will stay within the zoom window. But if you click the right mouse button, the cursor will move to the main screen, and you will then be able to complete the order form while you display the relevant part of the image at a readable size.
If order details do not appear in your Cart
If, after filling out the order form and clicking submit, there is nothing in your Cart then you may need to change pop-up settings in your browser. Ensure that pop-ups are not blocked for our site (disable "Pop Up Advert" blocking on your web browser) and then try ordering again.

Searching the Calendars
The calendars are available online as digitised images of the printed version. The entries are all in alphabetical order, and the surname index, which covers all three indexes, allows you to retrieve and display all pages which have entries relevant to the surname you are searching.
When you search on a surname, the first display will show how many index pages have entries containing that surname, for each of the types of documents. For example, if you searched the name HANCOCK, you would learn that there were 2 Petition Index pages containing that surname, and 1 Miscellaneous Index page. You can then browse through the page images to locate the relevant entries. (If you are using the NameX option, you may, of course, find more records of interest than just for the spelling of the surname you enter.)

Viewing the images
Click View index pages button to display the digitised images of the index pages. You can then browse backwards and forwards through the index pages.
